Our commitment to sustainability starts in the workplace – from our desks where we conscientiously minimize our use of paper and toners to the staff kitchen where we have reusable dishes and utensils and a freshwater station that eliminates the need for bottled water. And yes, we recycle! We have an onsite garbage and recycling facility designed for easy sorting of waste and recyclable material.
In our ongoing efforts to educate ourselves about the environment, we've also learned about the importance of creating a workplace that's as kind to our team members as it is to the environment. To sanitize the air we breathe, we installed ultraviolet lamps within our air exchanger system and strategically positioned ionizers that pull impurities out of the air. Ultrasonic humidifiers and lots of green plants throughout further enhance the air quality in our office.
Most of us don't realize it, but many of the technologies we live, work and play with produce electromagnetic fields that could affect our health over time. To protect our team members against this risk, we installed straight voltage isolators to clean hormone-disruptive radio frequencies being broadcast through electrical outlets, resulting in a consistently even stream of electricity throughout our workplace. We further minimized radio waves by equipping all desks with CAT5 Internet cables to reduce our use of Wi-Fi Internet.
When we expanded and renovated our office in the fall of 2010, we included sustainable features designed to give us all a sense of wellbeing. Magnetic sand underneath the floor creates a flux which makes us feel grounded – even though we have a second-storey address. On our walls, a crystalline additive in the paint creates ionization that interacts with our air-enhancing humidifiers and ionizers. We even aligned our furniture "geopathically" – that is, in harmony with the earth's natural electromagnetic field. We know, some of this stuff may raise eyebrows, but a number of our employees have actually noted how much better they feel these days.
That's right, we have our very own fish tank, filled with graceful office pets whom we love to watch while we ponder yet another bright idea. Sure we could have just bought a big screen TV and turned it to the aquarium channel, but we think having the real thing is just one more way of letting our team members know we truly care about them.
